Registered To Vote?

If you are not registered, it only takes a few moments to register here (deadline: October 8).

If you are already registered, please consider voting by mail. With this program, your ballot is mailed to you. This ensures you can vote early, skip the lines and guarantee nothing comes between you and your vote on election day. For more information on permanent absentee voting, click here.

To find out which candidates line up with your views, visit KanuHawaii here, OHA here or check Olelo.org for Candidate Forums on all islands.

Mahalo and remember, No Vote, No Grumble!

One Vote Matters

A common excuse for people not voting is "my vote doesn't matter anyway."

There are regularly elections in Hawaii that are won or lost by less than 200 votes.  In fact, the Chair of City Council, the legislative body that decides such things as rail or land use, won his seat by 50 votes!!

Each one of us can make a difference.  Register today.

Homeless People Can Vote Too!

People do not need a home to vote in this country.  Barriers that used to prevent US citizens from voting have come down.  If you or someone you know is homeless, s/he can vote.  The registration form has a line (#7) where people can describe the location of where they reside.  This is to determine which district s/he should be voting in without requiring a street address.  It could be an intersection, a specific tree in a beach park... as long as it is specific enough to determine a district, you can vote!

Everyone has the same right to participate in democracy and let their voice be heard by their leaders.

Similarly, as long as someone has a place where they can receive mail, then they can receive a ballot at that location and vote at their convenience using an absentee ballot

If you have any questions, please call or visit your County Clerk's office.

Why Register? Why Vote?

With so much news about corrupt politicians and the influence of money on government decisions, it's easy for people to feel cynicism about our democracy.  Unfortunately, as that cynicism takes hold and people become more disengaged, the easier it becomes for politicians to ignore the public interest.  It's a downward spiral.  By standing up and having our votes counted, we can help to end that spiral.  We can flex our democratic muscles and remind those in government that they do in fact work for us, and that we control whether or not they have that job.

Register today!  Throughout history, people have fought for the right to decide who represents us in government.  It has been a hard-fought battle, and we should not take their efforts and victories for granted.

No Vote No Grumble is working with other organizations not only to register voters but to educate them on where legislators stand on various issues.  Tell us what issues matter to you.  Once we get the candidates to state their positions on these issues, we'll get back to you with their responses.

Be Registered!  Be Informed!  Be a Voter!
